Pests are an issue that plague all growers. Like most things, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Once an infestation gets out of control, it can often be hard to recover.
Common Types of Pests
Aphids
Aphids love to hang out on stems and eat delicious leaves. They are tiny, soft-bodied insects that like to hang out in large groups. They generally amass on stems, or under leaves.
In their adult stages, they are able to fly.
Spider Mites
Spider mites present a situation that can quickly get out of control.

Color: Bright yellow-green.
Markings: 12 distinct black spots on its wing covers.
Antennae: Long and thread-like.
Shape: More elongated and oval.
Damage: Chews holes in leaves, petals, and vectors serious plant diseases (bacterial wilt)
Prevention and Solutions
Neem Oil
Neem oil is a natural remedy that that can help prevent insects, but also certain fungus and mold. Be aware however that it has a bit of a foul scent.
It is created from neem tree seeds.

Other Insects
Some insects are predators that can actually help control the pests that try to make a home on your plant.
Lady Bugs
Lady bugs are a fantastic predator of invasive insects.
Color: Varies (red, orange, yellow, pink).
Markings: Can have many spots, few spots, or none; spots are symmetrical.
Antennae: Short and clubbed (thickened at the end).
Shape: Dome-shaped or hemispherical.
Role: Eats pests like aphids, making them great for gardens
